In the framework of this research project, Professor Solomon is trying to understand each of these movements in a historical, socio-political and economic perspective – how they came about, how their demands have morphed in response to state and international community responses. The research is also trying to give specific policy recommendations to countries like Nigeria and Mali as well as to regional groupings like ECOWAS and the AU. Professor Solomon is arguing that military responses are insufficient and tend to ignore the real grievances underlying the formation of such movements.
