Radical Islam and Terrorism in Africa

The huge research project on radica Islam and terrorism in Africa is focusing on the following subjects: radicalization processes and its causes among the Muslims in Africa; radical Islamic organizations and movements throughout Africa; the relationship between al-Qaeda and the radical Islamic groups in Africa; the participation of African Muslims in terror activities in Africa and in other parts of the world; the participation of African Muslims in the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Arabian Peninsula at the side of al-Qaeda; the ideological roots of radical Islam in Africa; the struggle between radical Muslims and Sufis; the radicalization process among the African Muslims in the Diaspora and its causes.

A special attention will be given to the following radical Islamic and terrorist groups active throughout Africa: al-Shabaab in Somalia, Boko Haram in Nigeria, al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb in North Africa and the Sahel, Ansar Dine in Mali, and Uamsho in Zanzibar.
