Dr. Oyeniyi, Bukola Adeyemi
Dr. Oyeniyi, Bukola Adeyemi holds a Ph. D in History from the Universiteit Leiden, the Netherlands. Currently, he is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Political Studies and Governance Department, University of Free State. His previous appointments include being pioneer Acting Chair, Department of History and International Relations, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Nigeria (2010-2013) and pioneer Acting Chair, Department of History and Strategic Studies, Redeemer’s University, Nigeria (2006-2009). In 2011, he was Research Fellow, New Europe College, Bucharest, Romania. From 2011 till present, Dr. Oyeniyi was a Consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Royal Government of the Netherlands and Belgium, especially on Debt Cancellation for Nigeria; a Consultant to Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Groups (ACP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Internal Migration; and also for the International Labour Organization and the European Union on Forced Labour and Human Trafficking.
Dr. Oyeniyi has authored more than forty essays in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in books and entries in encyclopedias and biographies. Dr. Oyeniyi’s research on terrorism dated back to 2005 when, in most of Africa, government and supra-governmental agencies shudder at such labeling. His current researches on the phenomenon of terrorism focuses on understanding the underlying factors behind terrorism and designing comprehensive counter-terrorism measures.
His publications have appeared in South Africa; Nigeria; the United States; the United Kingdom; The Netherlands; Norway; South Korea; and Japan.
His other research interests include conflict resolution and peace building in Africa; identity and culture; forced labour and human trafficking; migration and tourism; etc.
In the framework of RIMA, Dr. Oyeniyi will focus mainly on radical Islam and terrorism in Africa.
